Freud 10″ Thin Kerf Glue Line Rip Blade

Not all saw blades are created equal. In order to make the production of our cutting boards go a little more quickly we decided to utilize a glue line rip blade. A glue line rip blade allows you to make an amazingly smooth rip through your wood that is ready to accept glue. No sanding required. The edge it cuts its incredibly smooth and cuts down on the time we spend shaping each piece before assembly.

The glue line blade we use is from a company called Freud. They are hugely popular among the woodworking community and produce an excellent product. Specifically we use their 10″ Industrial Thin Kerf Glue Line Ripping Blade. We will run hundreds of board feet of hardwood through the blade before resharpening. Often the only reason we send it to be sharpened is because a lot of our exotic woods (like blood wood) rate pretty high on the janka hardness scale and really take a toll on blades. Of the three of these blades that we currently own we have sent two off to be resharpened by East Coast Cutters once already. The third blade has been resharpened twice now and that may be the last time we can send that one down. However for the large number of board feet we can process with each sharpening we still feel like these are a bargain.

If you’re interested in purchasing one of these blades they can be found for around $60.00 usually. We’ve bought them on Amazon occasionally in the $55.00 range when a sale is on. The below image is directly from the Freud website.
