Grizzly T27417 Oscillating Sander

If you don’t have a lot of room for equipment in your shop and a sander would make your life easier then this should be a consideration. It operates as an oscillating edge belt and spindle sander. It has a relatively small footprint and weighs very little. I find that it runs well (if a little loud for its size) and absolutely gets the job done. We lean on this sander for a lot of smaller country crafts but it could handle cutting boards and some larger pieces without any trouble.

The oscillating feature is what really sold us on it. That option helps quite a bit when you are sanding for a while or doing many pieces. This is a good tabletop model that you can bolt down if it is going to remain in place. However, I haven’t found that it wanted to move during operation in the time we’ve had it (more than a year).

What might not be the best? Most Grizzly machines have a body cast from metal. This one, however, is some form of plastic. The deck is metal, but everything you see in green is actually plastic. It hasn’t been a problem but I didn’t realize that before I bought it and was a little surprised.

Another thing to note is I’m not certain this product is a Grizzly design. I have seen a half dozen other companies sell a version of this exact sander with a different color plastic body. I’m guessing some company out there is making them and licensing the product with small changes to anyone that is interesting. That being said, I am in no way upset with the purchase. It has proven to be a strong and capable machine that is a valued addition to the shop.

Also worth noting is that the replacement sandpaper for these models can readily be found ready to go at Home Depot, Lowe’s and we saw it at Walmart too. It makes picking up spare consumables convenient. We would rate this as an excellent “first” sander for any home woodworker and a welcomed addition to anyone that does a significant amount of sanding without be considered “commercial” quantities.
