Grizzly G0624Z Lathe

Depending on the type of woodshop projects you will be taking on you may want to consider a lathe. There is something to be said for spending a relaxing afternoon turning wood into something beautiful….and sawdust. We have two lathes in our shop that we lean on. One is a larger model for bigger projects. This specific model is a smaller unit. Technically listed as a 10″ benchtop model. That means you can turn bowls up to 10″ wide. The full length of the wood you can use is 15.5″ on this model. For most jobs such as handles for spoons or small lamps, you will have no trouble with its size.

It’s important to note that ES&S also has a much larger lathe that we use as our primary model for the majority of our projects. However, the G0624Z is a fantastic backup and one we keep in our personal basement to use when we aren’t at the shop.

The only drawback you may notice is that the variable speed control option is not electronic. You have to remove the black cover on the headstock and adjust the belt accordingly. This really isn’t a problem if you aren’t doing the kind of turning that requires a lot of speed adjustments. If you think you would be doing that type of turning you may want to consider spending a little more to get the built-in electronic adjustment options.
