The difference between old and new is easy to see on these 60 degree live centers for the lathe. One of these is set into the tail stock of the lathe and allows smooth rotation of the piece we’re working on at very high rates of speed. Over time they get beat up pretty hard. Scratches and gouges become common place and after awhile it’s time to retire one to the “backup” tool cabinet. Give us a year and this new one will look the same 🙂
