Usually when we order exotic lumber we simply say “We’d like x many board feet” and when it comes in we mill it as needed. Usually these boards are 5″-7″ wide. Usually. However we needed another 10 board feet of purple heart recently and it showed up as a single board measuring 19″ across and a little over 8′ long. It was almost too beautiful to cut up but we needed this two foot long piece for an upcoming project. I sat and stared at the remaining six feet of other worldly beauty and tried to imagine what it might become. Maybe a sofa table? End tables? Who wants some purple furniture!
