While at a clients house recently to discuss a custom kitchen table project we came across these beautiful barn beams. We are working on designing a way to incorporate them into their home in furniture and other design elements. Sometimes we have to travel far and wide to find the right pieces for a project and sometimes they’ve been on your property for decades. Maybe you have something laying around right now that will inspire your next project!
Have plans to work with barn wood? There are some things to remember:
1. You are going to want to clean that wood thoroughly with a stiff brush. Get any loose dirt and debris off of there.
2. Barn wood will likely be full of nails and other metal. Be mindful when planning your cuts.
3. Consider kiln drying the wood. This isn’t for directional stability. Insects love to make their home in old dry wood. You don’t want them coming out of your table or mantel after it’s finished.
