The bandsaw is one shop tool that finds its way into many homes. Not everyone will have a lathe or a planer but often the home hobbyist will have a bandsaw. Keeping that tool happy and useful is extremely important. We hear a lot of stories about people who are getting rid of their grandfather’s old bandsaw because it “doesn’t work anymore”. All too often the tool is perfectly fine and getting it to work again is just a matter of properly setting up a blade. A bandsaw will be your worst enemy if you don’t take the time to install the blade properly. It requires a soft touch and the time to dial it in. However if you spend 15-20 minutes putting it on correctly it will run like a dream.
We use two models of bandsaw from Grizzly in our shop. Both are variations on their 14″ G0555 model. These are work horses and can take quite a beating before giving any trouble. Check out the “Shop” portion of our website to see more details.
There is a video on the FineWoodworking.com website that really gives some good information on how to install a blade correctly. Definitely worth a watch if you have an old bandsaw collecting dust somewhere.
