Hand Hewn History

There are many perks to having a well appointed wood shop at our disposal. When we can’t find the furniture we’re looking for we just build it. When something breaks we rarely need help to fix it. In this case we got an opportunity to play with history. These oak beams are over 200 years old. They were hand hewn and originally part of Bohrman’s Mill in Orwigsburg, PA.

In this old image you can see the homes around the mill with the mill in the background. Some of the homes still exist to this day. After sitting in dry storage for almost 50 years the beams were recently moved. A few are going to live their lives in the 1787 Brewing Company opening in Hamburg, PA in May.

1787 will be at the Appalachian Wine Festival with ES&S and many other vendors on May 19th. Come down for samples of beer and wine and then stop over at our booth to say hi. We take credit cards for your convenience 😉
