The Final Coat Is Clear

A common question we get at the shop is what type of clear coat we use on our products. That isn’t an easy question. Depending the piece and how it will be used will heavily dictate the product we choose to finish it with. For indoor pieces that might see some water and a decent amount of wear we like to lean on Arm-R-Seal. It’s incredibly easy to use so if you have a project at home we highly recommend it. Simple stir it up and wipe it on. We like to use sections of 100% cotton cloth to apply it. Do not use a brush! You will be much happier with the dried finish if you don’t have to worry about seeing brush strokes and possibly leaving a bristle behind.

Generally we recommend a satin finish as shown in the image for furniture or anything with a fairly large surface area. If you choose gloss be ready to wear sunglasses anytime your near it or even if you have a lamp nearby. It’s like having a mirror on the surface of your furniture. The satin provides a nice semi gloss style finish while keeping your home from looking like a 1970’s disco.

In the picture you can see the stained red oak with 3 coats of Arm-R-Seal applied. Once dry (usually in 24 hours PER coat) you can just sand lightly with 400-600 grit and wipe clean. You’re all set.
