This beautiful set of trivets is made from aged cherry and seasoned walnut. Yes, walnut. I know those white stripes look a lot like maple but if you flip the boards over it is rich dark walnut.
When a tree is cut down you will find many layers of color. The very center is the heartwood which in walnut is a deep brown. As you move outwards the wood will get lighter. Towards the very edges of the tree will be the sapwood. On a walnut tree this wood is white like maple and hickory. The transition is very quick. Often taking place over only a half inch. Cut the lumber just perfectly and you can build a trivet like this set that is white striped on one side and walnut striped on the other.
These trivets and many more will be available at the Appalachian Wine Festival this Saturday from 11:00am until 5:00pm. Come check out the ES&S booth and mention this post to get 10% off your order of any in stock items.
