We are turning out some of our stainless steel servings spoon sets this week. This picture shows the metal hardware sitting on two wood turning blanks I milled down from larger blocks of Sapele. Imported from tropical Africa, Sapele has a beautiful tight grain pattern and looks absolutely amazing when it is polished. Often it is used as a substitute for mahogany and can readily be seen labelled as Sapele Mahogany in many products such as furniture and kitchen cabinets. The trees themselves grow to around 15 stories tall with a trunk diameter of up to 5ft which provides a lot of usable wood. If you would like to order something turned on the lathe with Sapele or have it incorporates into a cutting board let us know in plenty of time as this is a special order item. #sapele
