I was recently lucky enough to come across some Osage Orange wood in much larger quantity than I normally find it. Generally we acquire small pieces around 1.5″ square and maybe 12″-18″ long. However the log pictured above measures over 10″ across and almost 30″ long. Most often we use Osage in bottle toppers and handles and that one log will be able to produce a significant amount of both. The next process will be to setup the resaw blade on the Grizzly Industrial bandsaw and mill the log into useful sizes. Then it will need to dry for a few months. Hopefully you will see some of this beautiful grain hitting products sometime in February. To get an idea of what a finished piece looks like I added a bottle topper to the image. I can’t wait to see how it all turns out.
